GoPro still tops in extreme sports cameras

The GoPro has been a game-changer in capturing new and unique views of all kinds of activities. Whether it’s basic home video or filming the most extreme of sports, it’s name is synonymous with capturing angles and views once thought impossible.

And even after revolutionizing the video capture of extreme sports, the GoPro continues to step its game up, most recently with the HERO3: Black Edition. The only drawback to this is that battery life seems to be falling behind the curve. And for something that is intended to be used so much on the go, this can be a concern. However, a portable USB charger like this one could provide nearly five full charges for the most recent GoPro, something you’ll want to have on hand so you don’t miss a single epic shot. Canon’s EOS Rebel T3i standing the test of time

The Can0n EOS Rebel T3i has been on the market for two years now. Over that time, plenty of other dSLR cameras have hit the market, some even with superior capabilities.

But the highest-end photographic capabilities aren’t needed by everyone. Likewise, not everyone who wants to still be able to take professional grade pictures can afford paying the highest-end prices, likely for many features they might not need or use. You’ll still often have to shell out a fair amount of money to get a quality device, but you also could find all you need in a less expensive device.

With all that in mind, the good folks who review cameras over at Cnet.com have a set of links on the front of their digital camera reviews page to try and suit a few different specific buying needs. One of those categories is “Best dSLR under $1,000″, where you still find the EOS Rebel T3i listed, even after all this time! Read More »

Lenovo’s IdeaPad Y500 excels nearly acrosss the board

Finding a quality laptop at a great price isn’t all that uncommon. Finding a great laptop at a great price is a little bit more rare. So when one of these pops up on the market, it’s plenty deserving of mention.

Enter the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500.

Its hardware specifications alone are impressive enough for its price of $1,250. Those innards deliver on quality performance as well, to go along with a very good keyboard and some ear-pleasing sound quality. And while it only tested out to be mostly average in the department of battery life, that’s something that can always be taken care of with a spare battery or an extra charger kept in a much-needed location.

Still, grading out so well in many other areas while maintaining average battery life at that cost is impressive. Check out the review verdict from the good folks at techradar.com about where this laptop stacks up next to others in its price range. Read More »

Google’s Nexus 5 aiming to lengthen battery life?

Google’s Nexus 4 smartphone received impressive reviews pretty much across the board, and one of its most impressive aspects was a lengthy battery life.

When it comes to smartphones, battery life is a precious commodity where few models of phones really thrive. With bigger, brighter, higher resolution screens dominating the market, battery life has taken a backseat in some ways. And for some people, they indeed prefer those big screens once they’ve grown accustomed to regular charging of their mobile device.

Others though prefer to have their phone serve its primary function of communication for longer periods of time. And when it came to the Nexus 4, it delivered on that front. And for those looking ahead to the next model of the Nexus series, battery life appears to still be a priority for Google, even if it means holding off on upgrading to the levels of the highest quality screens out there. Given the output capabilities and mainstream status of lithium-ion, such research could also represent an easier transition to the mainstream market of batteries.

Check out an excerpt from the Maryland press release that details the research…
__________

Tiny beads of silicon, about ten thousand times thinner than a piece of paper, could someday make electric vehicles travel farther on a single charge or extend the life of your laptop’s battery. Read More »
